Dinosaur Mummy Found 2022
This "dinosaur mummy" discovered in Canada is considered one of the best-preserved dinosaur fossils ever found.
Researchers say the remains of the dinosaur include the tail and a large part of its right hind leg. It is likely that its entire skeleton is still preserved within the hill.
Scientists at the University of Reading believe the "dinosaur mummy" may shed more light on the animal's appearance and overall anatomy.
“This is a very exciting discovery and we expect to complete the excavation in the next two field seasons. Based on the small size of the tail and legs, it is likely to be a juvenile,” said Dr Pickles.
It is estimated that the dinosaurs may have died out 10 million years before the extinction of the dinosaurs - 77-75 million years ago.
"Although adult duck-billed dinosaurs are well represented in the fossil record, smaller animals are far less common. This means that the discovery could help palaeontologists better understand how hadrosaurs evolved and evolved," Dr Pickles said.
While hadrosaur fossils are relatively common in this part of the world, what makes the find unique is that large parts of the dinosaur's exposed skeleton are covered in fossilized skin, the scientists reported.
While the search continues, the entire skeleton may take several months to be assembled, after which these fossils may be ready for study in laboratories to determine the exact species of the duck-billed dinosaur. This would also require the discovery of a skull fossil.
Palaeontologists say that "depending on the size and conservation of this specimen, it may take several years before it is fully researched and ready for display."
